Biden Deploys 5,000 Troops To Afghanistan After Saying He Is Dedicated To Ending The War

Published on

President Joe Biden’s U.S military troops pullout has been met with criticism from all sides. Biden has defied what former president Donald Trump told the Taliban in meetings and how the U.S would withdraw its forces from the country. Trump had a plan in place and it was defied by the Biden Administration.

Trump originally made agreements with the Taliban to withdraw in May, which were broken by the Biden Administration and pushed back to September. Trump said that the withdrawal was a wonderful thing to do but warned Biden that he should have kept as close to his schedule as possible.

“I wish Joe Biden wouldn’t use September 11 as the date to withdraw our troops from Afghanistan, for two reasons. First, we can and should get out earlier. Nineteen years is enough, in fact, far too much and way too long. September 11 represents a very sad event and period for our Country and should remain a day of reflection and remembrance honoring those great souls we lost,” Trump stated.

The Biden Administration, however, recently announced that they were going to re-deploy around 1,000 troops to Afghanistan to assist in the withdrawal of American civilians. The Taliban has continued to capture provincial capitals and closing in on Kabul. He said he was calling in troops to provide security for U.S personnel evacuating from the U.S Embassy. President Biden was already authorized to send around 3,000 troops last week, which he defended as a “necessary” move.

Biden said that the move was based on the recommendations of their intelligence teams and blamed Trump for inhering a deal cut with the Taliban to put them in the “strongest position militarily since 2001.” Biden said he would be raising the total number of troops in Afghanistan to 5,000, despite previously telling the American people that he is dedicated to ending the war.

“I was the fourth President to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan — two Republicans, two Democrats. I would not, and will not, pass this war onto a fifth,” Biden said in a previous statement.

Biden even warned the Taliban that any action that puts the US personnel at risk will be met with a “swift and strong US military response. He said, “one more year or five years” of US military presence does not make a difference if the Afghan military cannot hold its own country. He said they needed to ensure that they will maintain the capability and the vigilance to address future terrorist threats from Afghanistan. This comes about a month before the US forces were set to withdraw entirely from the country.

Retired Army Gen. David Petraeus called the situation an “enormous national security setback” and said that those who made the decisions will have to own up to the consequences of it. He called the plan “tragic, regrettable, and frankly preventable.”

Since taking office, President Biden has continued to fail Afghanistan and the American troops. It has become so messy that even former president Donald Trump had an interesting question to ask.

“Tragic mess in Afghanistan, a completely open and broken Border, crime at record levels, oil prices through the roof, inflation rising, and taken advantage of by the entire world—DO YOU MISS ME YET?”

Biden’s weakness is only empowering the Taliban when he could’ve just stuck to Trump’s conditions-based plan for getting our soldiers back home. Death and destruction in Afghanistan didn’t have to happen, but Biden is directly responsible for the mayhem there today.
