After some employees mutinied about the refusal of Walt Disney Co. to condemn Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill, Bob Chapek, the CEO of Walt Disney Co., took to the ground before his LGBTQ employees and offered a humiliating apology.
Chapek, in his mea culpa, said that he had to be a stronger ally to the company’s transgender and gay employees. Falsely referring to the legislation as “Don’t Say Gay”, a smear created and propagated by Democrats, Chapek claimed it presents a “challenge for basic human rights.”
“You expected me to be a stronger ally for the fight for equal rights, and I let you down.” Chapek apologized in a memo addressed to Disney employees that was obtained by multiple news outlets.
“I believe that we are an infinitely stronger and better company because of the LGBTQ+ community. Although I failed to make the mark in this instance, I am an ally that you can trust–and I will be an outspoken advocate for the protections and visibility you deserve.
Bob Chapek stated that Disney would contribute money to the defeat of similar legislation in other states. He reiterated that the company would “pause” all political donations in Florida.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), has criticised Disney for not taking sides after its initial refusal.
He said, “When companies make a fortune by being family-friendly and catering for young children, they need to understand that young parents don’t want this in their child’s kindergarten classroom.”
The Florida Senate passed the Parental Rights In Education bill earlier in the week. DeSantis can now sign it into law.
